A Macrocell is a high powered cellular radio access node that provides large radio coverage served by a high RF output power (10W – 50+W) outdoor cell site (tower, antenna). Macrocells are generally deployed in rural areas, metropolitan, along highways, and any location that needs large coverage.
Picocell and Microcell, Enterprise femtocells and femtocells are categorized as small cells. Small cells are low-powered cellular radio access nodes that operate in licensed and unlicensed spectrum that have a limited range based on their RF output power(<10W).

Cloud RAN (C-RAN)
As of exponential growth of global data traffic on mobile network continues, mobile network operators are moving away from traditional wireless architectures, to Cloud/Centralized Radio Access Network architectures (C-RAN). This new C-RAN architecture has two main advantages which are reduction in CAPEX/OPEX for operators, and improved user experience through less interference.
C-RAN decouples base station functions into distributed RRHs (Remote Radio Heads) and centralized BBUs (Baseband Units), which can either be clustered as a BBU pool or operate independently. RRHs connect to BBUs via a fronthaul network., which can be either Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) or Ethernet.
